Properties of Medium-Density Fiberboard Related to Hardwood Specific Gravity

چکیده

Boards of acceptable quality were made from barky material, pressure-refined from 14 species of southern hardwoods. Static bending and tensile properties (parallel to surface) of specimens were negatively correlated to stem specific gravity (wood plus bark), chip bulk density, and fiber bulk density. Bending and tensile properties increased with increasing densification ratio, but the rate of increase was much less than published information for flake board from 9 of the 14 species. Results for internal bond strength were inconclusive. By regression analysis, internal bond was independent of stem specific gravity, chip bulk density, and fiber bulk density. Measurements of fiber pH and Bauer-McNett screen classification also failed to explain the wide variation in internal bond.

A Study on Mechanical Properties of Fiberboard Made of Durian Rind through Latex with Phenolic Resin as Binding Agent

This study was aimed to study the probability about the production of fiberboard made of durian rind through latex with phenolic resin as binding agent. The durian rind underwent the boiling process with NaOH [7], [8] and then the fiber from durian rind was formed into fiberboard through heat press. This means that durian rind could be used as replacement for plywood in plywood industry by usin...

Utilisation possibilities of textile waste for the production of medium density fiberboard

Background and Objective: Nowadays, in metropolitan areas, principled and hygienic waste management is very important. Recycling is one of the most appropriate options in waste management. Hereof, the present study was aimed to investigate the possibility of using textile waste fibers in the manufacture of Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF). Materials and Methods: This experimental study was perf...

Utilization of byproducts from the tequila industry: part 1: agave bagasse as a raw material for animal feeding and fiberboard production.

Agave bagasse was successfully separated into fractions that were used in sheep feeding trials. Agave bagasse can be substituted for corn stubble in the sheep's diet which resulted in improved weight gain. Agave bagasse was also processed into long and short fiber fractions with a hammermill and fiberboards of medium and high specific gravities being produced. Medium specific gravity agave fibe...

Effect of Nanosilver on the Rate of Heat Transfer to the Core of the Medium Density Fiberboard Mat

Effect of nanosilver (NS) on the heat-transferring rate to the core section of medium density fiberboard (MDF) mat was studied here. A 400 ppm aqueous nanosilver suspension was used at three consumption levels of 100, 150, and 200 mL/kg, based on the weight of dry wood fibers; the results were then compared with the control MDF panels. The size range of nanosilver was 30-80 nm. Results showed t...
